Dr. Allen P. Lu
Dr. Allen P. Lu is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a certificate of additional qualification in sports medicine.
He grew up in the Hacienda Heights and La Habra Heights area, and has been practicing and serving his home towns since finishing training.
Dr. Lu attended medical school at the David Geffen / UCLA School of Medicine, and completed his orthopedic residency training at the University of Rochester. While at the University of Rochester, he completed an Orthopedic Research Fellowship, during which he worked on cutting edge stem cell, genetic engineering of bone and cartilage, as well as applied orthopedic sciences.
Dr. Lu then returned to Los Angeles to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship at David Geffen / UCLA School of Medicine.
In 2004, he started practicing in the North Orange County / Los Angeles area, where his focus was always on the individual patient. He has served as team physician of various local college and high school teams. He has also served as Chairman of the Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Care section at Bright Health Physicians of PIH. During that time, he helped to spearhead changes and development of orthopedic programs to meet the challenges of a changing healthcare environment.
Dr. Lu has now left the rigid healthcare environment to pursue private practice, where he can focus more on the individual patient. He is currently serving as Chief of Surgery at Whittier Hospital Medical Center.
Throughout his practice, he has taken the time to give lectures, attend clinics, and teach as a clinical instructor for the PIH Family Practice Residency Program. He also teaches other orthopedic and sports medicine surgeons in the newest, most innovative, and advanced surgeries. He also develops new and advanced techniques in minimally invasive sports medicine arthroscopic techniques.
He currently lives in Huntington Beach with one inquisitive Alaskan Klee Kai.
When time permits, Dr. Lu enjoys training as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do with the entire family at Shambhala Martial Arts in Brea, CA.
